Recently back from Amsterdam and at the hands of “Storm Doris”, I had an extra few hours at Schiphol Airport, where I juiced up at a fabulous Juice Bar and had time on my hands to be convinced by a charming Dutch lady on the virtues of Wheatgrass. I now have a cardboard box full of 28 shots in the fridge with a “Hands Off -mum’s wonder juice” note stuck on! Feeling the benefits already, especially on my digestive track, I’m seriously getting hooked. This effective healer contains all minerals known to man and vitamins A, B-complex, C, E and K. In addition, it is extremely high in protein and contains 17 amino acids, the building blocks for protein. Personally, I’m not overly excited about the taste (though a shot is so small) but you can easily whizz one up in a smoothie for a pre or post workout and reap the benefits! The below recipe is rather yummy!
Wheatgrass Green Smoothie
One and a half bananas, peeled and chopped
Small handful of spinach
One ounce of wheatgrass juice
2 Medjool dates
Dash of ground cinnamon
Blend and drink immediately – feel energized!
